Inspiration: Karin Draaijer

November 25, 2009

As usual, Remodelista showcases a home I would die to have, in House Call: Karin Draaijer in Belgium. Also as usual, it’s difficult to imagine that style translated to our modern ranch in Wisconsin. I think the solution may be to invert the formula interior designers like Draaijer use. Instead of featuring modern furnishings in ornate settings, I’ll need to feature ornate furnishings in our modern setting.

The textures in this room are amazing. I love the idea of using highly-textured textiles in a neutral next to a pale, soft color.

This bathroom is great inspiration for a “someday” remodel in our house. It looks like the tiles were laid without grout lines, so they almost look like monolithic slabs. I’m also way into the cantilevered toilet. For some reason cleaning around the curves at the base of the toilet drives me nuts.

“I love the idea of using highly-textured textiles in a neutral next to a pale, soft color.” It seems like you are using that same approach in your master bedroom with highly-textured pale neutral curtains, etc.

They are not tiles in the bathroom, they are single slabs of marble cut to size.
