1950s Color: Eichler in Family Circle

November 9, 2009

A preposterous Google image search of something like “Eichler” led me to this awesome website, Enter the World of Eichler Design. The homeowner has done extensive research on the history of Eichler homes in his area, as well as thorough documentation of his own Eichler home improvements. What I’m excited about is the possibility that, based on this undated article from Family Circle, I could paint every wall in our house bright white and still be historically accurate.

A late ’50s article about Eichler homes features color photos by Ernie Braun.

Fixed elements are white or natural materials like wood or brick.

Of course I wouldn’t mind if the historical accuracy of my home were enhanced by an Eames lounge chair and George Nelson bench. Classiest TV console I’ve ever seen.
